The Astro-Zombies are a french psychobilly band. They started in 1996
and since their 1st EP (released in 1997) they went a long way. We have
seen the trio playing all over Europe, from Poland to Spain, Finland,
England, Germany, Italy…
They released 4 albums, played at big European psychobilly festivals,
opened for bands like The Meteors, Guana Batz and much more, 'till they
acquired a name on their own on the psychobilly scene as well as the
R’n’R scene.
Their 1st album, “The Astro-Zombies Are Coming” was recorded
“In Heaven”, the studio of Paul P. Fenech, of the cult band
The Meteors, in 1997. The result of this terrifying meeting is 12 songs
of pure and evil rock’n’roll which would open the way for
the band on the psychobilly world.
From that encounter of the 4th dimension, Bobby (Guitar/vocals) and
Gaybeul (drums) will find themselves years later participating in P.P.Fenech's
side-band project “The 10th Key Screamers”.
In 2000, the band record a second album called “Control Your
Minds” on the German label Crazy love Records, which also decides
to repress the first album as it was getting hard to get.
After several tours over Europe, the Zombies are ready to conquer the
whole world and went to record their third album “Mutilate, Torture
and Kill” at the legendary Kaiser Studio. This CD came out in
2003 on the English label Raucous Records. The vinyl version of this
album was released on our Drunkabilly Label, a picture disc pressed
on only 500 copies. This limited LP-edition is all sold out by now and
out of circulation.
The "Mutilate, Torture and Kill" release shows how the band
has musically grown up and how they're not afraid to mix styles and
influences. It holds as well as songs played with a Motorhead touch
as rockin' billy tracks and even a ballad.
Later in 2004 the Astro-Zombies found theirselves a new bassplayer:
Fantomas (also known from the US-band "Kings of Nuthin" and
formerly of "Frantic Flintstones"). In the meantime also a
live album got released and up till today the Astro-Zombies are still
one of the leading psychobilly bands in France. Early 2009 Drunkabilly
Records released their fourth studio album "Convince Or Cononfuse',
it also marks the last Astro Zombies recordings of standup bass player
Thomas. His successor is none other than Long Tall Texans main man Mark
Carew. More solid proof the Astro Zombies keep going from strength to
strength
